20 June Meeting

  • Each year Kaikohe Rotary is proud to host the Kaikohe Primary Schools Speech Contest every year, with the 2018 event taking place this week. We were proud to welcome 11 youngsters who stunned and surprised all of us with their eloquence and passion. The students from years 5 to 8 spoke on subjects as varied as social media, bullying and plastic bags in the environment.

  • Their excellent presentations meant our two judging panels had a hard job picking out the winners and placegetters. But all those who took part deserve our congratulations.

  • Thanks also to the teachers, parents and family members who came to support our young speakers; and to the Kaikohe RSA who fed us superbly and kept us warm and dry on a night of horrendous weather. And finally we should thank organiser and Kaikohe Rotarian Don Edmonds who sorted out all the arrangements, contacted our local schools, organised our two judging panels and acted as MC on the night.

  • In the year 5 & 6 section, Luke Edge from Ohaeawai School was the winner, followed by Tiffany Ten Haaf from Kaikohe Christian School and Chyrstal Gent from Kaikohe West School.

  • Robert Gent was successful in the year 7 & 8 section, with Kaya Heke from Tautoro School and Aisha Davies-Cooper from Kaikohe Christian School finishing second and third.
