Special Meeting at The Hubb - Northland College

  • Every year Kaikohe Rotary has the great privilege of hosting the Governor of District 9910. This year's Governor is David Oliphant from the Rotary Club of Henderson. David spent his career in freight, insurance and travel and has been a Rotarian since 1995. David came to Kaikohe last week and it was a pleasure to show the $14 million rebuild of Northland College and outline to him Kaikohe's Rotary community and youth activities.

  • Governor David's visit also saw the induction of new Rotarian Steve Wilce. Welcome to Rotary, Steve and Raewyn!

  • That was followed by the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellow - Rotary's highest honour - to a most deserving recipient.

  • Cam Sutherland has been part of the Kaikohe community for decades. He taught at Northland College for more than 30 years and drove school buses for a long time. in both these roles Cam has exerted positive influence over thousands of our young people.

  • But Cam's good deeds go well beyond the school gate. He's been the organiser of Kaikohe's Daffodil Day and has run the St John Op Shop on the main street. This year he took over as chair of the Kaikohe committee of St John, responsible for recruitment and fundraising for our local ambulance service.

  • Cam has also been a fantastic supporter of his wife Glenis who is a Kaikohe Rotarian and is currently Assistant Governor of District 9910. He does lots of work behind the scenes for Rotary projects and activities, such as the Traverse. He is a frequent and welcome presence at Rotary meetings and is the embodiment of the Rotary motto 'Service above Self'.

  • Congratulations, Cam!
