6 September Meeting

  • Rotary has many programmes that help facilitate international understanding, including among younger people. One is the Australia-New Zealand Matched Student Exchange in which teens are matched with a student across the ditch and then spend three months in the other's country. They live with their matched student's family and attend their school. The programme provides life-changing experiences for many and leaves them with memories that will be with them for the rest of their lives.

  • This week Kaikohe Rotarians heard from Kaikohe local Terisa Le Noel who returned from three months at Warners Bay near Newcastle in Australia; and from Yasmin from Warners Bay who is coming to the end of her stay in Kaikohe.

  • Terisa told us of her experiences in Australia including visit the Sydney Easter Show, seeing the old and new Parliament Buildings in Canberra and visiting Katoomba in the Blue Mountains.

  • Yasmin spoke of visiting Waitangi, snow boarding on Mount Ruapehu and seeing the mud pools and geysers in Rotorua. She also told us of experiencing Maori culture for the first time with fellow Australian exchange students and getting involved with poi and haka.

  • We can be be proud of both Terisa and Yasmin. Kaikohe Rotary is pleased to have helped these students share experiences that will benefit their futures and open their eyes to the possibilities the world offers.
