Primary Schools’ Speech Contest

  • Seldom has the Kaikohe RSA been as full as it was last Wednesday when Kaikohe Rotary hosted the annual Primary Schools speech competition. More than 100 parents, family members, teachers, Rotarians and friends came along to witness 18 outspoken youngsters talk about everything from world pollution to the dangers of sugar.

  • In fact, there so many competitors that we needed two panels of judges to adjudicate and decide on the winners.

  • Speaking for all the judges Pauline Malpas commended all the participants for the time and effort they put into their speeches and for having the fortitude to speak in front of such a vast audience.

  • President Don Edmonds then announced the prizewinners. In the Year 5 and 6 category, first prize was awarded to Rangimarie Croft from Tautoro School. Ellek Edmonds from Kaikohe East was second and Depla Palmer from Ohaeawai School finished third.

  • The top prize for Year 7 & 8 speakers was awarded to Keila Emile from Tautoro, 2nd was Ropata Wirihana from Kaikohe Intermediate and 3rd was Hineataahua Brown Kaikohe Intermediate.
