24 August Meeting - Governor's Visit

  • This week District Governor Peter Smith and Reo came to Kaikohe to be our special guests. Peter is a Northland boy, brought up on a farm near Hikurangi. After leaving he joined the Royal New Zealand air force where he met Reo. They were married in 1973 and have two daughters.

  • After leaving the air force Peter went into business and in 2003 founded Active Refrigeration, a successful Northland-based company.

  • Peter outlined his goals for his year as District Governor. These include encouraging clubs to minimise the costs of joining Rotary; increasing involvement in Vanuatu projects and helping our young people.

  • It's great to see a fellow Northlander with a real passion for Rotary rise to the top job in our district. Peter has a real passion for Rotary and he and Reo make a formidable team. We wish them all the best as they promote Rotary and we look forward to seeing them back in Kaikohe very soon.
