3 August Meeting

  • This week we welcomed good friends Keith Day and Vicki Douglas from the Rotary Club of Kerikeri. Keith has been extensively involved in Vanuatu projects over the years, while our club has links to Vanuatu through John and Elodie Vujcich who visited in April and assisted with cyclone reconstruction work.

  • Keith strongly advised our club to make use of District Grants and work with the District Committee in any projects. Kaikohe Rotary has received a request from a hospital in Santo to replenish its supplies of linen.

  • Vicki spoke of her work as membership director of Kerikeri Rotary. The club's membership has dropped from 45 to 28 in recent years. Doug Galbraith, who was President 20 years ago, has taken on the job again this year. This has encouraged a former member to rejoin and membership is now at 33.

  • Vicki said her aim is to have membership by the end of the Rotary year at 40. While attracting new members is important, retaining existing members is also crucial. Clubs also need a succession plan.

  • We thanks both Keith and Vicki for joining us and sharing their insights.
