14 October Meeting Last week Kaikohe Rotary welcomed Jarin Thomas and Rijo Joy from India. Jarin and Rijo were born in the southern state of Kerala and trained as nurses in India. They came to New Zealand primarily as nurses here get better pay and conditions than back home. Now both have come to Kaikohe and work at the Kaikohe Care Centre with Rotarian Valerie Dickson. Rijo also works at Broadway Health. Both Jarin and Rijo gave excellent presentations, despite having no public speaking experience. They said New Zealand's climate from what they are used to, with average temperatures at home around 35 degrees celsius and monsoons for three months of the year. While missing their families, they are enjoying living and working in New Zealand. Back in India Rotary is a club for rich people and Rijo and Jarin there would be no chance of them getting involved in Rotary. We are glad things are different in New Zealand!
