29 October Meeting Report

  • Guests:  Miranda Vriend, Ana Heremaia

  • Noel:  Briefed members re the Waimate show catering on the 8th November.  Members who can assist please enter names and attendance times on the web site link.  Ngaire advised that the Bunnings bbq is no longer lending their bbq.  Alternatives are required.  Judges’ catering is in hand.  Only fine tuning is now required.

  • A reminder that the fund raising movie “Pride” for exchange student Meghan will be screened at the Kerikeri theatre on Friday 30th 5pm.

  • Xmas parade is scheduled for Friday 28th November.  Ngaire to advise of details nearer to the date.

  • Bruce Gillies advised of a Heritage Kaikohe presentation about a little known historical land dispute on the Three Kings Islands to be held Sunday 2nd November.  Tickets available at $10 per head.

  • Friendship Exchange in February involving a visit of 2 couples and 2 singles from British Colombia; arriving June 15.  Another exchange is planned to visit Argentina late 2015/16.

  • President made a presentation, accepted by Sue on behalf of the Kaikohe Village, resulting from the recently held traverse.

  • Ana Heremaia provided the 5 minute talk.  Ana is involved in a new training scheme workshop producing furniture.  The training is run by Arco Training & Support.  Material supply focuses on sustainability.  The concept is designed to provide a skill base, jobs, and production, to improve the local economy.  Check the web site at  www.arcoworkshops.co.nz .

  • Noel presented the raffle courtesy of Bill who is now in Australia.

  • Miranda Vriend provided the talk on physiotherapy and how this discipline can help those suffering from concussion or dizziness. There is often no evidence of the cause of these issues on scans.  The talk was followed by a demonstration of the treatments assisted by Sue as the willing “patient”.
