  • Kaikohe Rotary Diamond Jubilee

    • President Glenis welcomed a crowd of over 100 to the Kaikohe RSA for the Diamond Jubilee celebration dinner on Saturday 17 May.

    • President Margaret Bishop spoke on behalf of the Rotary Club of Dargaville. The Dargaville club has recently celebrated its 75th year and it was the Dargaville club that chartered the Rotary Club of Kaikohe on 4 May 1954.

    • Past District Governor Merv Huxford represented District Governor Phil Ashton (While he was in Kaikohe Merv even found time to coach hockey at Lindvart Park).

    • Long serving member Bruce Gillies introduced a comprehensive presentation covering major events in the sixty year of the Rotary Club of Kaikohe.

    • Guest Speaker Eric Rush amused and informed with his insight into his background and experiences as a rugby player.

    • Certificates were presented to those of the 61 Kaikohe Diamonds who were present.

14 May Meeting Report

  • Makeups - Bill and Bruce planted three more kauri at the Rotary Grove today.

  • On 4 June the club will have dinner as usual at 6pm but with no meeting to follow so that members can attend Promise and Promiscuity at 7pm.

  • Primary Schools’ Speech contest - 18 June.

  • Keith Day for the Kerikeri Club spoke of his recent visits to Korea and the Vanuatu projects that have had funding support from Korean rotary clubs and Rotary Global Grants.

    • Keith is in the early stages of developing a technology programme with the Kaikohekohe Trust and schools in Kaikohe.

    • The programme includes parent and teacher education, and facilitating the purchase of tablets and Chromebooks for students.

    • Need support from the Kaikohe Club to access a District Grant.

  • Diamond Jubilee Dinner planning was finalised.
