12 February Meeting Report (Reporter - Stan)

  • Guests: Jesse, Vivienne

  • Apologies:  Don (Away for 2 weeks)

  • Glenys was invited to meet with the District Governor.  Clubs are asked to push members to attend the upcoming conference.  Some members raised issues relating to registration.   Glenys was asked to clarify these matters with the conference organisers.

  • General notices included reminders for Literacy Day; singing at the Vintage Railway station at Kawakawa on Sunday 16th February; members who are prepared to attend functions as speakers (mainly Wednesdays) are required.

  • Local residents, Robinsons, suffered a house fire recently.  A motion from the floor requested that Directors approve payment of $250 to assist the Robinsons, subject to availability of Sunshine Funds.

  • Volunteers are required to assist with the Blood Bank Friday 28th February.

  • Members can research Facebook to view a number of items and photos from Exchange Student Monita currently in France.  Don to set up a link to this for club members if possible.

  • Bruce advised that the Pioneer Village traction engine boiler had become time expired, and the Village had no funds available to complete the required restoration.  A reconditioned traction engine from New Plymouth was offered in exchange.   Club Directors may consider a sponsorship for the traction engine.

  • Jim:  Funds for a sign on Hone Heke Hill have been requested.  This will be considered.

  • Noel:  Advised he had received an email setting out the conditions for transferring Dare funds to the new group.  Noel advised that we wait for Bill to return before deciding further.

  • Ray:  Discussed RYDA issues re location this year, and do we want to run this activity again.  Ray to follow up.

  • Noel was 5 min speaker – 50 years since he signed his apprenticeship agreement and received a pay cut for the priviledge, also his training at Trentham when attending block courses.

  • Liz intro Bruce Gillies as speaker.  Topic was Voyage of the Black Eagle.

  • Jim Thanked Bruce for his pressentation

  • Keith  closed with a notable quote from Albert Einstein about human stupidity.
