9 October Meeting Report

  • Guests - Monita Skipworth, Matewai Cruickshank, Cam Sutherland, Jessie Wilson, Kaya Tobin.

  • Make-ups - Elizabeth and Bill at the Blood Pressure promotion.

  • Thanks to the Meals on Wheels volunteers.

  • The Breast Cancer Appeal is on Friday 11 October.

  • There will be a Combined Meeting with Kaikohe Lions at 6:00pm 23 October at The Hubb, Northland College. The guest speaker is Jim Luders, Northland College Principal.

  • We have been asked to assist with the Kaikohe Christmas Parade - 29 November.

  • The club agreed to hold the Okaihau Kaikohe Traverse again in 2014.

  • Five Minute Speaker told members about Clarks Escapades.

  • Guest Speaker Monita Skipworth is a senior student at Okaihau College and is going to France as an Rotary Exchange student.

    • Monita lives with her family at Matene Road Tautoro. Her parents are Garry Skipworth and Matewai Cruickshank.

    • She spent her early years in Hawkes Bay where she attended Kohanga Reo and Kura Kaupapa Māori.

    • She got the inspiration to apply to be a Rotary Exchange Student after an exchange student spoke to their school when she was in Year 9.

  • In thanking Monita, Bruce Gillies noted that she was the 22nd Exchange student who had spoken to the club.
