14 August Meeting Report

  • Guests - Cam, Donna, Ngaire, Guest Speaker Mark Eager.

  • Make Ups - Don and Glenis attended the Area One Presidents' meeting last Saturday and Jim attended a District Treasurers' meeting on the same day.

  • There was a round of applause for Bill, for the outstanding Paul Harris Celebration evening.

    • A note of thanks has been received from Penny and Mark Milner.

    • President Glenis reported that Northland College singer Kawiti Selwyn has been introduced to Kerikeri voice tutor Carol Maher. The club will consider providing support if necessary.

    • There was a profit of $518 from the dinner, and $560 from the raffle.

  • The Whangarei Secondary Schools Speech Contest is on 18 September. Sue and Keith to organise the local contest.

  • Kaitaia is hosting a Combined Area One Meeting on Saturday 30 November.

  • The Kerikeri club is asking for support for the Heidleberg Youth Orchestra Concert at the Turner Centre 7:30pm Tuesday 20 August. This is a Kerikeri Rotary fundraiser.

  • Area One clubs are working together to support a ROMAC patient in need of a life saving heart operation.

  • Kidney donor Gillian Buckley is speaking to the Kerikeri Rotary Club on 26 August.

  • District Conference 2014 is in Waitangi - 25-27 April 2014.

  • The Rotary International Conference 2014 is in Sydney - 1-4 June 2014.

  • The Kaikohe DARE Annual Meeting will be on 11 September.

  • Five Minute Speaker Cam has taken up the challenge of organising the annual Kaikohe Daffodil Day Breakfast - 6:00am to 9:00am, 30 November, at The Hubb, Northland College.

  • Guest Speaker Mark Eager is the General Manager of Mobile Health Solutions.

    • Mobile Health Solutions operates a mobile operating theatre for low risk day surgery in rural areas.

    • It visits Kaikohe every five weeks (it is in Kaikohe today 19 August - in the Broadway Health staff carpark off Sydney Street).

    • So far 1,000 patients have had operations in Kaikohe.They are all under five year old dental patients.

    • The type of surgery carried out varies from area to area.

    • They also provide education for rural health professionals.

  • Directors are to meet at 5:00pm next Wednesday.
