News and Notices

  • Note that our Club Meeting this week is on Tuesday 9 July. District Governor Phil Ashton is meeting directors at 5:00pm and will join us for our 6:00pm dinner meeting as our guest speaker.

  • On Friday 5 July Dictionaries were presented at Omanaia School and Kaikohe East School.

    • Frank and Don, along with Frank’s daughter Anja and granddaughter Kirsty received a warm welcome at Omanaia, and President Glenis was assisted by her husband Cam, and Merv Huxford and Bronwyn Ellison at Kaikohe East. The staff at Kaikohe East School took the opportunity to show the Rotarian visitors their new cycleway, and the school gardens.

 3 July Meeting Report (Reporter - Stan)

  • Welcome to Cam Sutherland and Diane Claydon from Kaikohe St Johns.

  • Apologies were received from Ray, Valerie, Don.

  • Guest Malcolm Henley was welcomed.

  • Notices presented to the meeting -

    • Saroja has submitted her resignation after 9 years of service.

    • District Governor Phil Ashton and his wife Janice will attend next week’s meeting, also accompanied by Assistant District Governor Sue Hamnett. This meeting will be held on Tuesday 9 July at 6pm. Bring partners and guests.

    • President Glenis advised that she intended to circulate notices by email attachments. Some members were unable to open the attachments and suggested to try PDF format.

  • Notices tabled at the meeting included -

    • District funding results.

    • Application for funding from Northland College Wai Fencing program. The meeting consensus was to support the full amount requested to fund two students. Directors to consider the application at their next meeting.

    • Committee meetings will be scheduled 3rd week of each month. Director meetings scheduled 4th week at 5pm.

    • Blood bank volunteers are required for 12th July.

    • Director Bill reported that the Mid Winter Dinner has 60 tickets sold of 100. Members to be quick as tickets are selling fast.

    • Fire Service meeting is scheduled for Friday. The service has resource problems with 2 volunteers attending a recent call out. Okaihau called out in support. Saturday 13th July, Memorial Ave Kaikohe will be closed for fire safety demonstration all day, and including rescue & SARS helicopters. The service needs to involve youth as volunteers. The service currently has trouble attending callouts with the current 15 volunteers. Bill advised that we will operate a sausage sizzle and needed 3 helpers. St John will also be attending.

    • Hamish from Northern News to advertise our mid winter function.

    • Dictionaries will be delivered to the remaining two schools this month.

  • Sue introduced the Guest Speakers from Kaikohe St John.

    • Diane is a volunteer with 12 years’ service and Cam has 10 years’ service.

    • The informative talk covered staffing at the Kaikohe base, fundraising, Heart Safe scheme, and defibrillators. The meeting noted the absence of national signage advertising locations of defibrillators.
