29 May Meeting Report

  • President Noel welcomed Tracy, back with us after a long absence, and George and Marion Palmer visiting from Cheltenham.

  • Members stood for a few moments to mark the passing of former Kaikohe Rotarian Ian Crawshaw.

  • Notices

    • Northland College students Tamatoa Makiha and Paerangi Kopa have been nominated for the Rotary Northtec Technology Skills Programme.

    • Mahoni Rakete from Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe and Gabrielle Harris from Northland College have been nominated for the Rotary Northtec Science Extravaganza (Mahoni studies Science at Northland College).

    • The club has decided to set up a club supporters network with an annual fee of $50.

    • Glenis and Elizabeth are interested in going to the District Quiz on Saturday 8 June, but we need some more volunteers (see above).

    • Monument Hill planting taking place at 1:00pm on Saturday 1 June.

    • The club has received $1,000 from the Auckland Private Educational Charitable Trust for the Heritage Kaikohe web-site.

  • Further discussion about Rotary Corner. George was able to give valuable expert advice.

  • Thanks to George for donating this week’s raffle prize.

  • Five Minute Speaker Frank told of us of his recent personal experience with the health services.

  • Meeting closure from Jim: “Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.”
  • Committee meetings followed.
