3 October Meeting Report
  • President Noel welcomed Keith on his return from his Friendship Exchange and extended tour.

  • Makeups
  • Thankyou card received from Lil Day. She is staying with family in Tauranga.
  • President Noel thanked all those involved with the Okaihau Kaikohe Traverse 2012. Thanks also to the Bay of Islands members who helped, and other friends and relatives who joined the team.
  • Bill reported that orders are being taken for Rotary Christmas Puddings. They are a good fundraiser for the club. Selling price $20 - $5 to the club. Can be sold to family and friends. See News and Notices above.
  • Rotary Calendars for sale - see News and Notices above.
  • Surplus Dictionaries are for sale.
  • Keith reported that the participants were needed for the Group Study Exchange to Korea in April/May 2013.
  • Bill reported that a trolley derby is planned for the Christmas Parade 8 December - Looking for trolleys.  
    • Rotary is not doing the Christmas tree.
    • Consider a Cake Stall on that day.
  • Frank thanked members who had supported the Okaihau Kaikohe Traverse 2012 in his absence.
  • Five Minute Speaker Don talked about Education Policy and lessons from Finland.
  • Roger Floyed was the Main Speaker
    • Roger spoke about the Automotive course he tutors for Northland Polytechnic.
    • The course has been oversubscribed each year.
    • Roger goes out of his way to gain and maintain the interest of the students using audio-visual aids and developing mutual respect.
    • He covers other life skills to better prepare students for the workplace and for their place in society.
    • He uses humour to maintain interest.
    • Roger shared some of his visual aids and humorous clips with members.
