  • Okaihau Kaikohe Traverse 30 September 2012 – Frank gave an up-date. See News and Notices above. All Rotarians are requested to assist.
  • Frank’s Five Minute Speech was on his and Juen’s visit to New Brunswick, Canada to visit their daughter and to attend the wedding of one of our exchange students Lindsey Smith, who married a Texan Rodeo contestant of some renown. Frank was fascinated at how many trees grew in the region as well as being very impressed with Canadian life and topography.
  • Guest Speakers Lindsay and Mary Johnson spoke of their visit to Kazakhstan, once in the USSR now an independent state and the 9th largest country in the world.
    • People are mainly Turkish and Russian. Life is very different from ours but because Mary’s sister had been there for 16 years language was not a problem.
    • The country was neglected by the Russians but has a future as it has big oil deposits.
    • A totally different sort of place that I don’t think many New Zealanders will ever go to, let alone find it on a map. Thanks to Mary and Lindsay for taking us out of our comfortable “Armchair travels”.
