22 August Meeting Report Reporter Don
- Apologies - Tracy, Frank, Moengaroa, Roger, Julie, Liz, Saroja.
- Guests - Cam Sutherland, Alan Maher.
- A cheque has been received from the District 9910 Rotary Foundation for the Dictionaries in Schools project.
- Keith is off on a Rotary Friendship Exchange to Northumberland leaving on 3 October.
- The club sends its wishes for a speedy recovery to Barbara Holdem who is in hospital. Best wishes also to Liz and Malcolm Henley.
- Volunteers needed to complete the Dictionaries Project. Cam and Glenis will go to Tautoro, and Ray to Omanaia. There are about 30 surplus dictionaries for sale at $20 each.
- The Secondary Schools’ Speech Contest is next week 29 September. Early start for club members - 5:45pm. Speech contest to start at 6:30pm.
- Frank, Bill, Adrienne and Jim met last week to plan the Okaihau Kaikohe Traverse.
- The finish will be at Heritage Kaikohe.
- We need a banner.
- There will be a half-marathon section.
- Some Subcriptions still to be paid. Click on this link to find out more.
- Bruce Gillies reported that 31 people attended the Hongi Hika presentation at Heritage Kaikohe last Sunday. Disappointed at the small number of Rotarians. Bruce is prepared to make a donation to Heritage Kaikohe and asked that the club consider a matching grant.
- President Noel is visiting the Rotary Club of Kerikeri on Monday 27 August to hear Penny Burridge. Others interested in going should contact Noel.
- Reminder that we are meeting the District Governor at Kerikeri on Wednesday 14 September.
- Secretary Elizabeth has received emails about ShelterBox and the Blood pressure Campaign. See News and Notices above.
- A Cake Stall is planned for 5 September.
- Ray and Noel have been busy cutting up grapefruit for marmalade.
- Five Minute Speaker Valerie entertained us with an account of her trip to Rotorua and back on the Naked Bus.
- Glenis was the main Speaker for the evening.
- Glenis and Cam have recently returned from a holiday in Canada.
- This evening they focussed on the time they spent in the Niagara Falls and Niagara Escarpment area.
- Members enjoyed an interesting and informative presentation.
