  2. Glenis and Cam were unable to go to the District Quiz, but our small team managed fourth place, just 5 points behind the winner. This gave us a prize of $700 plus a bonus of 25% for travelling the furthest and Noel also won a raffle prize.

9 May Meeting Report

  1. Guests - Assistant District Governor Chris Burrows and Past Assistant District Governors Jenni Wilson and Keith Day in their convict dress.
  2. Apologies - Stan, Tracy, Roger, Julie, Liz, Bill, Jim, Saroja, Adrienne.
  3. Chris presented the club with the Tom McKay Trophy for best promotion of the Rotary Four Way Test. Kaikohe shares the trophy with the other clubs in Area One and it arises from the dictionary project.
  4. Don, Moengaroa and Elizabeth volunteered to assist St John at the Stroke Awareness promotion at New World on Saturday 12 May.
  5. Noel, Don, Keith, Sue, Glenis and Cam are to represent the club at the District 9910 Quiz at Matakana on Saturday 12 May (see notice above).
  6. Club members were astounded when the three visiting convicts suddenly turned out to be policemen in disguise, and forcibly arrested President Elect Noel to issue a challenge to him to ensure that there was a good representation from Kaikohe at the 2013 District Conference on Norfolk Island.
  7. Bookings are open now - Link to website. It is important to book early. Plan to spend a week on Norfolk Island - 21-28 April 2013.
  8. Kaikohe Rotary Auction is on Saturday 26 May. President Frank is looking for a person to mastermind this event. See notice above.
  9. Don reported that Lee Whitelaw has sent out notices to schools inviting entries to the Primary Schools’ Speech Contest (20 June). She has requested that two of the judges are nominated by the principals.
  10. Ray reported that RYDA in Kaikohe had been cancelled.
  11. Don reported that the club’s nominee for the Rotary Northtec Science Extravaganza, Parehuia Tito-Paraone, now attends Okaihau College.
  12. There are 164 Dictionaries awaiting distribution. Valerie is to survey schools for the numbers.
  13. Five Minute Speaker Keith gave us a range of interesting facts about the Moon.
