21 March Meeting Report Reporter - Don
  • Guests - Assistant District Governor Chris Burrows, Kerikeri Rotarian Owen Smith (Guest Speaker), Gary and Rosina Adams from the Riccarton Rotary Club.
  • Makeups - Literacy Day prize packers Jim, Keith, Liz and Don.
  • Gary Adams told us a little about the Riccarton Club (Christchurch), which has 100 members.
  • Assistant District Governor Chris Burrows brought greetings from District Governor Brian Tuck.
    • He congratulated our club on our website. He often uses it as a quick way to find out what is going on in Rotary.
    • Less than 100 have registered so far for conference. The target is 200 (see News and Notices above).
    • Kaikohe, along with the other five clubs in Area One, have completed all the requirements for the Changemaker Award.
    • Clubs may need to think about changes in order to attract new members. Consider engagement as important as attendance.
    • District membership is 1,117. We need to bring it up to 1,200 or redistricting may be an option.
  • Rotary Youth Driver Awareness has been postponed - see above.
  • Blood Pressure Awareness Day 2012 is 12 May. We have been asked to assist with a stand at New World Kaikohe.
  • Our catering at the Heritage Kaikohe open day made a profit of $400 to donate to Heritage Kaikohe.
  • Five Minute Speaker Glenis spoke of going to the centennial celebrations at Balmoral Station in North Canterbury where she has family connections.
  • Guest Speaker Owen Smith thanked the club for supporting the Northern Crossing and showed a DVD about the event.
    • Volunteers will be needed this year 21 April at the Taheke bridge, Te Pua Road turnoff, and the Rawiri Taiwhanga park.
    • Owen then showed us a DVD about the Rotary Shelterbox project. He has been actively involved with the deployment of shelterboxes and had some interesting stories to tell.
