  • Emergency Response Kits (ERKs) - We have been asked to contribute to another ERK Box or to pay for another box. The directors will discuss this tonight.
  • A tree is to be planted in the setting of the Christmas tree site by Rotary.
  • Guest Speaker Roland Whyte spoke on the need to be aware of the neurological diseases and disabilities that affect our society. He spoke of how we can make a difference in the funding of the research that is done each year as well as the small things that we can do to maintain our own nervous system.

  • Iowa Friendship Exchange
    • Monday 5 March - Arrive by bus to Ohaeawai and Kaikohe - Barbecue at Keith’s.
    • Tuesday 6 March - Hokianga.
    • Wednesday 7 March - Bay of Islands - Club meeting.
    • Thursday 8 March - Meet Whangarei South Club at the Kawakawa Railway Station.
    • Contact Keith if you can help with transport.
  • Heritage Kaikohe open day (see News and Notices above). We are on the BBQ and in the kitchen, supplying morning tea etc.
  • Kaikohe Rotary Literacy Day 2012 - 24 March - see link.
  • Guest Speaker David Hope-Lewis was bought up in Pakaraka. His dad had the store in Pakaraka and at Waimate North. He didn’t move far from home.
    • David has had the pleasure of sailing the South Pacific while helping to deliver yachts to new owners.
    • David has been commodore of the Bay of Islands Yacht club and is currently the Patron. This Club was formed on 10 June, 1950 as the Paihia Yacht Club. This club has gone from strength to strength over the years and today has a small flotilla of small boats to teach young people how to sail and enjoy the water. This is  an arrangement where the whole family must attend and help in any way they can.
  • Ray thanked David for an interesting history lesson.
  • Ray also thanked Elizabeth and Bruce for the beautiful Rotary meal.
  • Keith won the raffle of one of Bruce’s fine pieces of woodwork.
